Co-CONCEPTION, DIRECTION, & DESIGN
BLUE, face the wall
Blue, Face the Wall was a site-specific performance within the California Institute of the Arts, created in response to a visit to the Los Angeles County Jail. The installation juxtaposed the physical structure of the two institutions -- jail and school -- as actors representing inmates followed an arbitrary set of rules enforced by actors playing guards. The piece was an attempt to process our experience of the jail, investigating the relationships between visitors, prisoners, and enforcers in an environment with very specific systems governing the movements and actions of its inhabitants.
